“Enjoying a cool glass of Sauvignon Blanc while lounging by the infinity pool at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Plantation on a hot summer day. Does it really get any better than this?”
That was the only thought going through my mind during a sunny Saturday at the Lake Oconee resort known for striking the perfect balance between being luxurious and laid back.
Clocking in at a 75-mile drive from Atlanta, the Lodge has become one of my favorite getaways from the city. Read on to find out why I think this is the perfect spot for enjoying a little lakeside R&R.
Rest. Whether you’re looking for a cozy guest room to crash in between golf games and lounging by the pool, or a lakeside cottage to enjoy some family time, the Lodge offers something for everyone. The décor can be best described as lake house chic (think plush feather beds and 400-thread-count sheets topped with whimsical embroidered throw pillows). And when you sprinkle in the types of amenities that the Ritz is known for including turn down service, a fully stocked honor bar, and complimentary morning newspapers, you’ll be in absolute heaven. Looking to splurge a bit? Opt for a room on the Club Level. I love being able to pop in and enjoy complimentary breakfast, bites, and a glass of wine whenever my little heart desires.
Play or Relax. When it comes to recreation options, the Lodge can’t be beat —thanks to its lakeside location. If hanging out in the water sounds like a plan, there’s paddle boarding, fishing, and boating, to name just a few options. Golfers can try their luck on the resort’s five courses. Or, maybe get a workout in in the resort’s 24-hour fitness center. If the kids are with you, there’s even the Ritz Kids program for them (which offers a variety of physical and creative activities designed for children ages 5-12). There are full- and half-day programs to keep them busy seven days a week, with a Kids Night Out option every Friday and Saturday. But if lazing about sounds a little more appealing, grab a lounge chair at the recently renovated infinity pool overlooking the lake. Or, head to the resort’s 27,600-square foot spa (also recently renovated). I enjoyed feeling my muscles turn to butter during a 50-minute personalized massage, but I’d also recommend the Creekside Body Cocoon wrap.
Bites. On a lazy summer day, Gaby’s by the Lake has the poolside bar and patio that is a perfect spot for enjoying a little ‘Mater Sandwich (the Lodge’s take on a BLT) and a margarita. (And FYI, every Saturday, there’s a taco stand on the pool deck from noon to 3 p.m.) If you’re enjoying a round of golf, stop into Linger Longer Steakhouse for a short rib burger and a cold beer. And for a quick breakfast bite paired with your favorite Starbucks beverage or an afternoon ice cream treat, stop by the Coffee Shop in the Lodge. For dinner, I’ll usually head to Georgia’s Bistro where I devour dishes like cornmeal-crusted artic char or a 10-ounce bison ribeye. And don’t forget to save room for dessert — the bistro’s signature buttermilk pie always makes my mouth happy. (Of course, another dessert option I enjoy is toasting a s’more by the Lodge’s communal fire pit. It’s like being at luxury sleep-away camp for adults!) Want a more romantic option? Try the chiminea dining experience where you and your plus one will enjoy a three-course meal, a chilled champagne toast, bottle of red or white wine, and choice of dessert while snuggled up on Adirondack chairs next to one of the chimineas that line the Lake Oconee shore. It’s the perfect way to end your luxurious lakeside day.
