Marietta Black Heritage Walking Tour

Written by Emily Anne Jackson

The City of Marietta in collaboration with the Marietta Visitors Bureau and a group of black community leaders has mapped out a new tour entitled “Marietta’s Black Heritage Walking Tour: Walk Together Children.” The brochure-guided tour winds its way past 13 different landmarks of hefty historical significance to the black community and the city itself. Each history-laden location lies within a mile of Marietta Square so you can easily make the journey on foot. Some sites include Old Zion Baptist Church, Cole Street Baptist Church, the Blue Eagle Fire Company and Lemon Street Elementary School. The brochures are available at the Marietta Visitors Bureau, City Hall, the Marietta Museum of History and the “Gone With the Wind” Museum: Scarlett on the Square, and will soon be available for download on the city website.
