Get Lucky: Brookhaven Goes to Burger Heaven

Let me just throw out some food for thought, if you can handle a heavy pun: fried pimento cheese balls, from-scratch mozzarella sticks, tempura artichoke hearts, crunchy pickle chips. Would you rate your drool factor a one or a ten?

That’s pretty much how a meal starts at Lucky’s Burger & Brew, a longtime Roswell staple now open in Town Brookhaven. For us, as soon as we saw the words “pimento cheese” we were trying to keep our tongues from lagging more than the dogs’ on the patio. Every single bite of the aforementioned lived up to Chef Ted Lescher’s build-up. Plus, with his homemade, perfectly paired sauces for each, it was wishful thinking to believe we’d have room for an actual meal.

…But we made it happen, anyway. Besides, saying no to at least a bite of five juicy, piled-high, custom-built burgers would be an unforgiveable culinary sin. My favorite was the Memphis Blood Hound for its classic flavors of red onion, sharp cheddar cheese, candied bacon and sweet and spicy mango BBQ sauce. My partner in lunchtime crime went for seconds on the German Shepherd, a perfectly seasoned patty topped with triple cream cambozola and candied bacon jam. Both made us close our eyes while we chewed, and both will probably get ordered the next time we stop in.

If you need more reason to do the same, how about the fact that anytime our Hotlanta reputation peaks 100 degrees, they’ll serve up a round beers to everyone in the house? Wear your UGA or Crimson Tide spirit wear, and you’ll get a complimentary brew, too. They’re having as much fun running the restaurant as we’re having choosing an entrée. And for that, we’ll play foodie fetch.
