CHRIS Kids began in 1981 as a collaboration between Atlanta Junior League and the Menninger Foundation to help abused and neglected youth in the metro Atlanta area. The acronym stands for Creativity, Honor, Respect, Integrity and Safety, and the organization’s mission is to heal children, strengthen families and build community. In 2012, they opened the CHRIS Clubhouse in partnership with the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities to provide young adults ages 16 – 21 with a place to learn the tools necessary to transition to adulthood successfully. In 2013, they opened the state’s first Trauma-Informed Foster Care Adoption Home, which allows kids to live together, share experiences and support each other through the adoption process.
