Buckhead’s Fresh Catch: Boneheads

photo-5Pharr Road is adding to their spice rack. Atlanta-based franchise Boneheads opened their sixth Atlanta restaurant (thirteenth overall) in Buckhead last month. Known for their grilled fish and original Piri Piri sauces made from African birds eye pepper, the restaurants have spread from the original Perimeter location across the entire southeast.

The South African import is the key ingredient to their award-winning Piri Piri sauces, on the menu in a range of flavors and temperature, from Lemon and Herb to straight up Hot. For those like me who shy away from extreme heat, I started with the Medium and ended with dipping everything on my plate into the creamy concoction, a consistency like Buffalo sauce, but with a spice all its own.

Popular dishes include crispy fried Boneheads Shrimp, Piri Piri Chicken (flame-broiled and served with your choice of sauce) and tacos made with the shrimp, chicken or sautéed tilapia. Boneheads reels in the flavor with toppings like cucumber dill, black beans and corn, piri piri mushrooms and pineapple salsa. Mix and match with dishes to your palette’s content. Per my own, you can’t really go wrong with any combination.

The casual restaurant, with an interior soaked in calming blue tones, offers suited-up business people a fast, yet fresh, alternative to make your lunch hour feel more like a mini-vacation. Although their flavors are exotic, eating at Boneheads in Buckhead, or other locations in Brookhaven, Powers Ferry, The Mall at Stonecrest, supports Atlanta entrepreneurs – just one more ingredient that makes the savory meal go down smoothly.
